Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20 1964 was a prominent American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first woman elected vice president, and she also holds the title of highest-ranking female officer in American history. She is a member and former senator from California. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to her move to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then to the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003 she was elected the city's district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010. In 2014, she was re-elected. Harris was the junior United States senator from California from 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the second African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, she fought for healthcare reform as well as federal de-scheduling cannabis, a pathway towards citizenship for immigrants without a legal status as well as the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. She was well-known for the direct questioning she conducted of Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
